Conventional construction between the posts allows for a greater variety of finished siding products such as beveled siding and cedar shake. This provides homeowners with both log and other types of contemporary finishes. |
The Advantage of the Scandinavian Overscribe |

This type of log joinery provides the most dramatic visual and structural effect. These tightly fit notches are the heart of your log home construction. This method of joinery prevents twisting that can occur in the log walls and provides a tight air seal. |
Overscribing is a process whereby lateral shrinkage groove is cut between the wall logs (lateral groove) in addition to a shrinkage relief groove that is cut into the top of each corner notch. As each log dries and shrinks in diameter, these cuts allow the logs to settle into the shrinkage relief grooves allowing 100% of the scribed surfaces to come into full contact. This method yields a weather-tight seal without the need for chinking. |
